Wish List: The next Zelda games

This will be a work in progress.  I’ve had ideas I wanted to share for the last year on what I would like to see in the next Zelda game (after BotW), while I would have preferred to have posted a complete article, I just don’t have the time to finish it.  And so I have to decided to have it be a work in progress, where I’ll just write down what I would like to see as time goes by.  Hopefully when I do finish I plan to make it a video as well.

Please be advised this post contains spoilers.  After completing The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild I was left unfulfilled by its conclusion.  Although it’s a wonderful game (and probably one of my favorite games of all time), the ending just seemed unceremoniously abrupt.  I was hoping to see a final battle between Link and Calamity Ganon that was a blood bath.  Instead we got a battle that consisted of Link riding a horse and shooting Calamity Ganon, with Zelda striking the final blow with her dormant sacred powers awakening and neutralizing Calamity Ganon.  While I loved the heroism that Zelda manifested, I was disappointed that “we” the players weren’t allowed to complete this task; only serving as spectators.

What follows is a scene between Zelda and Link that is heartfelt and sweet.  Then it goes to the final scene where Zelda and Link are in Hyrule field, with Zelda suggesting they go investigate Zora’s Domain because Divine Beast Vah Ruta has stopped working.  This particular scene excited me because it caused me to believe in the possibility of a story that continues for Breath of the Wild.  So with this in mind I decided to create a wishlist for what I would like to see in the next Zelda games.

First off, I use the plural games because BotW was such a groundbreaking game that it introduced multiple characters with storylines that can have separate games unto themselves.  For example I can see the possibility of the Champions (Mipha, Daruk, Revali and Urbosa) having their own game.  Because of their BotW fate, their games would be prequels; telling the story of how they came to be Champions.  Mipha would have a game similar to the story of Joan of Arc or Mulan, where a young female enlists in the war in order to fight for her people.  Can you imagine a scene where she finds a young soldier who has defeated many villains but has been severely injured; only to discover that this soldier is actually Link?  Of course she heals him with Mipha's Grace, and they both work together to defeat the enemies that are trying to invade Zora’s Domain.

Daruk’s game would be more of a beat‘em up where Daruk gets to smash his way through enemies.  I imagine he would be able to roll into a ball and destroy everything in his way.  The player would also be able to do different combos for greater destruction and points.  Revali’s game would be a flying simulator, where you get to combat in the sky as you fly your way through different battles and side quest package deliveries.  Flying would feel smooth with intuitive controls, but motion control would be 100% banned (lol, Star Fox Zero).  And finally Urbosa’s game would be about sneaking around and solving puzzles.
